The 2nd of May is here again marking World Tuna Day, a day of celebrations for Tuna throughout the world!
PNA Members and Tokelau completed a 2-day virtual workshop, aimed at supporting the implementation, at national level, of the 4th Implementing Arrangement to the Nauru Agreement. Under the Arrangement, PNA Members and Tokelau have agreed to require electronic tracking buoys that are attached to drifting fish aggregating devices, or FADs, to be type approved, registered and tracked, effective 1 January 2023. The PNAO CEO, Dr Sangaalofa Clark, said that fishing on FADs is a very important component of the economy of the PNA purse seine fishery.

The Melbourne Climate Action Scholarship is offered to students from Pacific Small Island Developing States who intend to pursue a University of Melbourne graduate coursework or research degree in the fields that address the effects of climate change in the Pacific. The scholarship was established by the University of Melbourne as part of a joint initiative with the University of Cambridge, University of Toronto, University of Montreal, and McMaster University which received the endorsement from HRH Prince of Wales, a life-long supporter of sustainable causes and climate-change action.

The workshop will serve as a refresher training for the VDS officers and at the same time will provide an opportunity for the VDS officers to review and finalise the VDS record in FIMS before the close off date, 31st March 2022.
The 1st and 3rd day of the workshop is dedicated for the VDS Officers only while the 2nd day (29th March 2022) will allow the participation of the Fishing Industries, mainly to discuss VDS matters and issues that may be important for the successful implementation of the VDS.
