MAJURO, MARSHALL ISLANDS, MONDAY 3 SEPTEMBER 2012: The Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) office invites all journalists working in the PNA countries to submit their best stories about tuna to be in the running to win a chance to report from this year’s Tuna Commission meeting in December.

PNA Director Dr Transform Aqorau said: “The recent Communicating Tuna workshop for journalists in PNA countries has stimulated more interest in reporting on tuna. All the stories from this workshop are being submitted to the PNA office for judging. We want to give other journalists who were not able to attend the workshop the chance to send the PNA their best stories on tuna. These stories will be judged by senior journalists and fisheries experts to decide whose work is outstanding. The outstanding journalists will be given the chance to travel to the Philippines in December to report on the meeting of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission.”

Entry is open to any working journalist (print, radio or television) in the PNA countries - Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu. The winning entrant/s will be provided with fully funded travel from their PNA home country to Philippines to report on the meeting.

To enter please send weblinks or text or audio/visual files of stories on tuna conservation or development published or broadcast from August 1-October 1 to pnatuna@pnatuna.com by 1 October. Entry can be a single story or multiple stories.

Journalists who participated in the recent “Communicating Tuna” workshop for leading journalists in the PNA countries will automatically be entered in the competition as long as they submit their works to competition coordinator Anouk Ride.

Stories entered into the competition may also be featured on the PNA website.
