The Vessel Day Scheme (VDS) is integral to the effective management of tuna resources within the exclusive economic zones of the Parties to the Nauru Agreement.

In response to Nauru’s request for in-country training on the VDS, the PNAO team conducted a training session in Nauru from 20 to 24 January ,2025. This session was attended by the new Chief Executive Officer of the Nauru Fisheries and Marine Resources Authority (NFMRA), Ms. Erana Aliklik,  and her staff. The training was specifically designed to refresh the knowledge of existing personnel and to bring new team members up to date on the monitoring and management of the VDS.

To ensure the VDS continues to facilitate sustainable management of tuna resources while maximizing economic benefits for the Parties involved, it is imperative that staff receive regular training and updates on both the processes and the operational aspects of the system that is used by the Parties to monitor the Scheme.

After a successful week by all, the PNAO VDS team departed Nauru on 26 January, 2025.
