The PNA Office recently welcomed Ambassador Hirohisa Soma of Japan for a courtesy visit with CEO, Dr. Sangaalofa Clark.  During the visit, Ambassador Soma reaffirmed Japan's support for the Pacific Islands and expressed interest in the PNA's work, including the Vessel Day Scheme (VDS) and other emerging sustainable fisheries initiatives.  Both parties also acknowledged Japan's long-standing support of the PNA, and its early acceptance of the establishment and development of the Parties' Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).

Amid growing challenges, particularly the global impact of climate change and economic pressures, both parties emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration and existing partnerships to ensure sustainable and mutually beneficial outcomes for fisheries in the region and its people.
