The Parties to the Nauru Agreement Office (PNAO), in collaboration with the Tuvalu Fisheries Authority (TFA), has successfully completed the first in-country training workshop under the 2026 PNA Compliance Regime Training Programme. Held from 13 to 17 April 2026 at the Tuvalu Fisheries Authority conference room in Funafuti, the five-day training marked the official launch of the port-based trialling of the new POA Debriefing Questionnaire and the integrated rollout of the PNA Compliance Case Register (PCCR) system across the PNA members in the region.

The training, initially planned as an in-person event, was disrupted by flight delays caused by Typhoon Sinlaku. To ensure continuity, the PNA Office shifted to a virtual format. Participants in Majuro received on-site support from Policy Manager Brian Kumasi, while Dr. Brouwer guided the sessions online.

Information Technology Officers from across the Parties to the Nauru Agreement gathered in Majuro for a two week Drupal Training Workshop hosted at the PNA Office from March 23 to April 2. The workshop gave participants practical skills to build, manage, and secure websites using Drupal, a widely used content management system.
The 45th Annual Meeting of the Officials of the Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA), a weeklong meeting covering items relating to PNA and PNA subsidiary arrangements, concluded on March 13, 2026, at the PNA Headquarters in Majuro, Marshall Islands. Delegates from the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu took part in the event.

The annual PNA Observer Coordinators meeting was held on 4 February 2026 at the PNA Office in Majuro. Observer Coordinators worked together on key issues affecting observer operations on the FSMA and US Treaty fleets. In her opening statement, the PNA Office CEO referred to the observers as the “eyes and ears” of fisheries management who played a vital role in the success of the VDS, noting Parties’ pride in their observer program.

Read moreOn the 3rd of December, 2025 the PNA Office received a visit from 10th graders from the Majuro Cooperative School as part of a field trip for their Communications and Network class. Mr. Penihulo Lopati, the Vessel Day Scheme/Vessel Monitoring System (VDS/VMS) Officer, briefed the students on the history of the PNA and the VDS. Mr. Lopati highlighted the importance of communication and networking systems in supporting the efficient operation of the PNA Office, with particular emphasis on their role in enabling VDS services for PNA members.
Read moreThe 2nd PNA e-Reporting Workshop took place on 9 to 10 October 2025, at the PNA Office in Majuro, Marshall Islands. The VDS and Data Officers of the PNA+ National Fisheries attended, except for those from the Solomon Islands and Palau.
The Workshop aimed to enhance the completeness, accuracy, and overall quality of e-Reported tuna fisheries data collected by PNA from the fishing vessels. This data is essential for developing effective tuna management measures that ensure that the tuna stocks in PNA waters are maintained at sustainable levels for present and future generations.
